December 2020 – Christmas preparations
Back to article list

2nd December 2020

Could I please ask that children don’t bring Christmas cards into school this year. We are doing our utmost in school to limit the number of objects and equipment shared and passed between children in order to limit the spread of infection. I would hate for our collective hard work to be undermined in the last weeks of term and for children to be forced to isolate over the Christmas holiday.

Why not take part in the following initiative instead…

Posting Festivity

Bury Youth Cabinet want to spread some festive cheer and are inviting children and young people to send festive cards to people in our communities that are isolated during the festive season. The idea is that we can help people to feel less alone in these strange times.

We have some guidelines for your cards:

  • Address your card “Dear Friend”, feel free to add a little drawing or poem along with your festive message. Cards can be homemade or shop bought, it doesn’t matter which.
  • Sign your card with your first name and age if you wish but please DO NOT include your surname, address or school. We don’t want people that you don’t know being able to contact you.
  • Once you have written card pop it in an envelope but don’t seal it and you can post it in our post box in Tesco Bury or Tesco Ramsbottom. Boxes will be in store from Monday 30th November until Tuesday 22nd

All cards will be collected and vetted by staff at Bury Council so please don’t seal the envelopes that you use. After they have been proof read they will be delivered to people who are isolated and would like to receive them both in residential care homes and those living on their own. Any cards that contain personal information or any inappropriate content will not be used.

Our wonderful kitchen ladies will be preparing a Christmas dinner on Wednesday 16th December.

We will also be having a Christmas jumper day on the 16th December. We won’t be collecting a donation, we just want you to be festive,  but I would encourage donations to a good cause of your own choice.

Many thanks.
